Christian Dior Couture Fall 2006:

As the announcement of Head Designer at Christian Dior looms closer, I decided to share with you one of my all time favourite Dior by John Galliano Haute Couture Collections.

I chose to focus on threeof the outfits from the Collection, which seemed to draw inspiration from Joan of Arc, Siouxsie Sioux, Bottechelli and Forties French Actress Arletty. A strange collection of reference points but, that was Galliano’s Style.

The three outfits I chose were the first 3 presented in the show. All three models were adorned with glittering glass diadems, Gilded chain mail and an amazing sculpted armour sleeve.

Look 1: Silver.

The first Gown was a black satin dress, with protruding hips and intricate silver embroidery. Her right arm has a giant Silver armoured shoulder and fully metal arm. Her head dripping with glass beads and a crown formed into the shape of four-seahorses.

Look 2: Gold.

The second look was embroidered tulle, gathered at the waist and on the shoulder and draped around the hips with a cascade to the floor. The Golden Armour protruded from the hip and cupped the chest, as well as fanning out on the right shoulder and continuing down the arm. No crown this time, but a full head of draped beads frame the face.

Look 3: Bronze.

The third look was a draped dress, which fell around the hips. The dress was covered in waterfall palettes of bronze and blue, which overlaid a base of pale blue silk, thinning out when it got to the bottom of the gown. An amber beaded headdress made a crown of shells and seahorses whilst again on her right arm, an enlarged bronze shoulder protruded from the models body and continues down the arm, making an exaggerated silouette.

These three dresses are absolutely breathtaking, I wish i could view them in real life to see the amazing craftsmanship. But for now, I can just stare at the pictures and my Illustrations.
